Packaging
We have significantly simplified most of our packaging and, by doing so, become more sustainable. We have reduced raw material and energy consumed in manufacturing, as well as reduced energy consumption for shipping, since the packaged product is lighter. Our paper packaging now uses 100% recycled (90% post-consumer), non-bleached, kraft paper. No foils or coatings that hinder recycling are used. We are currently unable to use vegetable-based dyes but are working towards that goal.
FOOTBED PACKAGING
We are working on creating a new package to replace our "pocket package". The material used in the current design, a corn-based plastic called NatureWorks® PLA, has had problems with durability and quality control. The new packaging, when launched, will be much more durable, and even more sustainable. We have been working on the new package for a year, been through numerous iterations and materials, and are hoping to make the most sustainable possible package by minimizing material use and using the best possible materials.
NatureWorks® PLA is made from an annually renewable resource - field corn, instead of petroleum. Its sources can be regrown every year, as opposed to the millions of years it takes to create oil. Compared to traditional plastics, NatureWorks® PLA uses up to 68% less fossil fuels to produce. NatureWorks® PLA has achieved zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Ecopac can be disposed of by all traditional waste management methods such as incineration, landfill and mechanical recycling. Future generations of Ecopac packaging will continue our quest to find as close to a "perfect" packaging solution as possible, from cradle to grave. We are continually looking into new materials (and rethinking old ones).

SANDAL PACKAGING
When we designed the packaging for the SOLE Platinum Sport Flips, we decided to use no box at all. Even though they are considered premium footwear, the box is unnecessary, adds empty space when shipping and usually ends up in a landfill. Therefore, we kept it simple and went with a 100% recycled paperboard hanger (70% post consumer). We currently ship our sandals individually bagged, inside recycled cardboard cartons that maximize space and reduce shipping waste. We hope to soon replace the individual plastic bags with biodegradable bags.

SOCK PACKAGING
Our sock packaging keeps things simple. We used the same 100% recycled paperboard as our footbed and sandal packaging. One of the best ways to make packaging more sustainable is to simply reduce it.
