| My name
is Sarah Maxwell.
I was in a
car accident (head on collision) two years ago. I had an open
pylon fracture of my right tibia and a complete break in two area's
of my fibula. I have had three surgeries to try and save what
was left of my foot. I will try to sum them up quickly. I wore
an external fixator for eight months to innitiate healing. I have
an internal fixator consisting of two metal plates (one on my
tibia and one on my fibula) and 18 screws. I also needed a bone
donor because a fraction of my tibia was gone. I had plastic surgery
that consisted of a muscle flap taken from my gastrocnemius to
promote blood flow. I have zero degrees of dorsiflexion and only
15 degrees of planterflexion.
I have a significant
limp secondary to almost no ankle movement. However, I was introduced
to the [SOLE Custom Footbeds] on a clinical rotation at Arizona
State Universtity my 2nd Year of Physical Therapist assistant
School. The Therapist I was working under, Bob Carl, discussed
the benefits of the orthotic and talked me into trying a pair
for my self.
I have greatly
improved my gait pattern. and while in shoes that my orthotics
are in I do not have any limp what so ever. It has improved my
biomechanics in my ankle, improved my posture, and has also taken
a great deal of strain off of my knee that I was experiencing
before the [SOLE Custom Footbeds]. So thank you for this wonderful
product. It not only improves my function in every day life, it
also has decreased my pain level and has prolonged or possibly
haulted the idea of surgery later on in life. I recommend them
to all my patients!
