Can you really extend the life of your footwear by wearing SOLE Footbeds?

The Race Rx Academy recently finished a study on SOLE Ultra footbeds. They tested the footbeds in worn running shoes, and here is what they found:

  • After only 100 miles of use, the running shoes provided less support for the foot as compared to the SOLE footbeds.
  • The use of SOLE footbeds results in a positive maintenance of running gait mechanics.
  • SOLE footbeds may represent a cost-effective strategy to increase shoe life without sacrificing arch support and stability.

Basically, by using SOLE footbeds, you can extend the life of your shoes, and continue to maintain a proper running gait!

Who is the Race Rx Academy? And what do they do?

  • Led by Dr. Matt Rhea, the Academy researches various exercise science topics.
  • Their research has a focused interest in examining products related to health, fitness and performance.
  • Beyond research, the Academy offers a variety of educational avenues to ensure that research information is distributed to health and fitness professionals in an accessible, comprehensible, and applicable manner.

We've read the research, but we'd like to hear about your experiences with SOLE. Have you extended the life of your favorite running shoes, work boots, etc. by using SOLE Custom Footbeds?

— Rob Nathan, SOLE Product Director

Note: This was an independent research study conducted by RACE Rx Academy. SOLE provided no financial benefits for this research.

I am soon to test the longevity of the footbed in my boots with a 2 month trek overseas. The footbeds are amazingly comfortable and cushioning, but I have a major concern that requires an answer. When I heated the footbed prior to fitting, the ruberised under layer shrank. It is now approximately 15mm shorter than it was prior to heating, and is shorter than the top layer by that amount. It is an unusual feel, and I am unsure whether this is a design feature that assists stability and toe grip, or whether it is a faulty item that will give me blisters in the middle of my toes when pushed into some serious work. If this is a deliberate design feature, I will persevere and happily report back . If it is faulty, I will attept to get a replacement before departing and avoid the anguish of long term toe blisters. thanks - Chris
