Softec vs. Ventilated Softec

Everyone loves having an extra "spring" in their step, and we know that using SOLE Custom Footbeds can bring a new rhythm to any person's swagger, but what is it IN the Softec and Signature Edition footbeds that takes the comfort and shock absorption to the next level?

The answer is Softec. Softec is our proprietary cushioning material, featuring open-cell foam, which is formulated for an amazing compression set and resilience. Since I thought you may be asking yourself, “What in the world does 'open cell,' 'compression set' or 'resilience' mean?” here's a quick explanation:

Open-cell foam
Open-cell means that air can flow openly through the cells, so they can't pop, and the air creates cushioning for each step. For example, bubble wrap functions like closed-cell foams. In the same way bubble wrap pops, closed-cells pop and become packed out. Open-cell foam ensures a longer life-span for any product of which it is a part.

Compression Set
Having a good compression set means that the foam instantly springs back to its original shape. Memory foam is an example of a bad compression set, as it takes a long time to spring back. You want a fast compression set so that each step you take is cushioned.

Resilience
Resilience measures the shock absorption of the material, and Softec has a shock absorption rating that is equal to the shoe industry standard cushioning material, Poron. You can see more in our Softec Comparison.

Now that you know the basic components that make Softec great, I'm excited to tell you that it now comes in two forms: original Softec and Ventilated Softec.

The Softec series features the normal Softec.

The Signature Editions use Ventilated Softec.
