Lightweight Sport Socks

To sock? Or not to sock?

To sock? Or not to sock? That is one of the most common questions when it comes to heat-molding SOLE Custom Footbeds.

Whether 'tis nobler to wear your socks, or brave it barefoot when you do the heat-molding process...

The answer? It doesn't really matter... that much. The sock doesn't have a dramatic effect on the molded shape of the footbed. The contours of your foot are going to be, for the most part, the same. The rule I like to go by is this: Just wear whatever type of sock you will be wearing most often with this footbed. If it's going in your loafers for work, go with your thinner dress sock. If it's going in your running shoe, you'll probably want to wear your SOLE Premium Performance Socks. The only time you won't want to follow this rule is for activities where extremely thick socks are required. If you're wearing an extremely thick sock, you won't get the most accurate mold of your foot. You also run the risk of pushing the arch down too much, especially in a lower volume piece of footwear.

You may ask yourself, "Doesn't the footbed get really hot? Won't I burn my feet?" After being in your oven for two minutes at 200ºF (90ºC), the footbeds reach a temperature of about 160ºF (70ºC). And yes, this is warmer than your average hot tub, but it's not so hot that it will be uncomfortable in any way. To be honest, it's actually kind of soothing. Whether you choose to go with a dress sock, merino wool, cotton with the little pom-pom on the heel, or barefoot is your choice. Either way, you'll be doing your feet a favor.

I agree with the "soothing" part. I love fitting these in the winter.
