Highlights from the Banff Mountain Film Festival
I had the pleasure of attending the Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival (BMF) for the first time this year. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, artist, book reader, or movie-goer, I'm certain you'd enjoy the BMF.
The Banff Mountain Festival is a 9 day book and film festival including:
- an opportunity for individuals to hear some world-class athletes speak about their passions and sports;
- an opportunity for artists to exhibit their creations in the BMF photo competition;
- an opportunity for writers to submit their work in the BMF literary competition;
- a trade show exhibition to see some of your favorite outdoor brands;
- and so much more.
While I was at the festival working, on behalf of SOLE, I still managed to:
- catch a few movies;
- take in the Book Festival;
- listen to Chris Sharma and SOLE athlete, Dean Karnazes speak;
- and enjoy all that Banff has to offer.
The best part of being there was presenting the Best Feature Length Film Award to France's Remy Tezier for his film Beyond The Summits. His film followed Catherine Desteville, a world-renowned rock climber, on 3 life-changing summits. He did an amazing job of portraying Catherine's personality and passion, all the while featuring some of the most breath-taking scenery one could imagine.
Now, you may be thinking, “This sounds cool, but I'm never going to see it.” Actually, you may have the opportunity to view it because the Banff Festival does a World Tour! It may be coming to a city near you. For anyone who's interested, check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpmiNzqCvB4 or http://www.banffcenter.ca/mountainculture/tour/ for more information.
I was proud to be there as an ambassador for SOLE, as much as SOLE is proud to be an ambassador for the BMF. It truly was a world-class event, showcasing some of the best adventure films created.
